Part of Something Greater
ByPeter MEnthusiast: Batmanon January 4, 2014|Verified Purchase
This trade collects issues 700-703 and helps bridge the gap between Batman: RIP and Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne. Two of the comics are RIP the missing chapters which are quite important to the Grant Morrison's Story arc*. If you are not reading Grant Morrison's story arc you will probably not like this comic and think it is simply random junk. The other two stories involve Batman and time travel and are interesting but not key to understanding anything really. On of them features Bruce Wayne as Batman and the other features Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne as Batman and Robin. Both are interesting stories but irrelevant to the overall plot of Morrison's story. In essence this trade allows you to skip reading Final Crisis and have only the relevant parts pertaining to Batman.
*Morrison's Story Arc is as follows:
Batman and Son
Batman: The Black Glove
Batman: RIP
Batman: Batman and Time (or Final Crisis but still needs 701 and 702)
Batman and Robin Volume 1-3
Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne
Batman Incorporated (and Leviathan Strikes)
Batman Incorporated Vol 1: Demon Star (New 52)
Batman Incorporated Vol 2: Gotham's Most Wanted (New 52)
A readers guide to Grant Morrison's Batman is a great help if you are looking at the whole series.

Everything makes sense now!
ByStevie Zon March 19, 2011|Verified Purchase
A lot of reviewers on here seem to really dislike this book but I totally disagree. This book collects Batman #700-703. While you only get 4 issues, the hardcover book only costs $10. Quit griping about this book not being big enough. Issues #701 and #702 are the missing chapters of Batman RIP. When I originally read RIP I was very disappointed with the ending. The book just totally cut off. I remember being angry because I had no idea why the book was called Batman RIP because we never saw what really happened to Batman. Finally Grant Morrison gives us the last 2 chapters of RIP. After reading this book, I want to go back and reread RIP and The Return of Bruce Wayne again. I think both books will be more enjoyable now that I understand everything. Time and the Batman also includes Batman 700, which is an enjoyable read. Time and the Batman also contains issue #703, which is not written by Grant Morrison and is the weakest chapter in the book. So if you found Batman RIP and The Return of Bruce Wayne to be confusing, Time and the Batman will finally make everything make sense....and that was worth $10 to me.

Not Crucial
ByWonder Cilantronon May 18, 2015|Verified Purchase
Collects Batman 700-703
Issue 700: "Time and the Batman" features a time travel story involving three sets of Batman and Robin, as well as glimpses of future Batmen to be.
Issue 701: Pt. 1 of "R.I.P. - the Missing Chapter" takes us from the cliffhanger of Batman 681 to the beginning of "Final Crisis".
Issue 702: Pt. 2 of "R.I.P. - the Missing Chapter" shows Batman's part in the Final Crisis story, and how he ends up in the past.
Issue 703 "The Great Escape" is an okay story with Dick Grayson and Damian as Batman and Robin, written by Fabien Nicieza.
Unless you really feel the need to fill in all the blanks, this collection isn't crucial to understanding Grant Morrison's Batman run. If you haven't read Batman RIP and Morrison's earlier Batman books, I wouldn't bother with this one at all.

Ties up the loose ends
ByJoseph Carlinon October 26, 2011|Verified Purchase
If you have been following the Morrison run on Batman with a mixture of admiration and confusion - this is the book for you. It does a really good job linking Batman RIP, Final Crisis, and The Return of Bruce Wayne. I have really liked Morrison's run, but all of the sudden it seemed like the hardback series was missing a big piece. This book glues it all together - and also has a great stand alone issue in Batman 700.
The art is pretty top notch too.

The best part of Morrison's run
ByChristos Achilleoson February 2, 2014|Verified Purchase
It is obviously a matter of taste. While other readers don't feel the same way, for me "The Missing Chapter" was the best (and most important) part of Morrison's run.
In two issues,Morrison managed to explain his entire run up to that point and prepared the ground for the conclusion of "The Return of Bruce Wayne" and "Batman and Robin". I don't know if Morrison originally intended for RIP and Final Crisis to be connected or if an editorial mandate for the death of Batman caused the confusion, at it was rumored at the time, however Morrison at the end made it work.
More importantly, "The Missing Chapter" is a wonderfully written piece of literature. I could feel the desperation in Bruce Wayne's poetic narration, realizing that he was fighting a battle that would never end against eternal evil. At the same time, I could sense his determination and hope that at the end he would prevail.
I don't pretend to understand everything that Morrison was trying to say in this book, but this is part of the fun.
