Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2—This contribution to the celebrity canon is by no means the worst, and Foxworthy's collection of light verse courts both fans of the comedian and their children. The brief poems are perfect for rote memorization assignments and cover familiar, kid-friendly topics like lost baseball hats and bubble baths. Björkman's artwork peppers every page with tykes and friendly suburban wildlife in perpetual states of pop-eyed delight. Alert readers may spot a note on the verso of the title that suggests an "I Spy"-esque hunt for images in the illustrations for the poem "What Do You See?" The suggestion looks and feels like an afterthought, buried as it is in fine print amid the bibliographic data. But never mind; this is still a respectable choice. Kudos to Foxworthy for his role in the production of an appealing, easy read.—Catherine Threadgill, Charleston County Public Library, SC

5 year old LOVES
ByStacon March 21, 2014|Verified Purchase
My 5 year old boy absolutely loves this book of silly poems. We home school so I Iike to get creative with my son. Each week he picks out a poem and together we choose 6 words to use as spelling words. 3 easier words that he can sound out and 3 more difficult words. Everyday he writes those words and reads the poem. By Friday he has it memorized and has learned 6 words, while having fun! The poems are funny and provide good laughs for this family of 4 young boys!

Dirt on my Shirt

For a children's book to be successful, Grandma has to like it. She will be reading it over and over and over again!
I saw Foxworthy on a talk show and he was really excited about the illustrations for "Hide". I figured if the writing was terrible, at least we could have fun with the hidden object premise. It was adorable. So I bought "Silly Street" and "Dirt on My Shirt".
"Dirt on My Shirt" is funny and sweet. My grandsons enjoy the poems because they tell real life stories simply and honestly. Jeff writes about self, family and friends in a positive light and you can't help but smile as the book is read. Everyone who reads this will find at least one relative or friend that they will instantly recognize!
I read the poem FRIENDS from "Dirt on My Shirt" as a toast at my daughter's wedding...It was received with hugs, laughs and tears of happiness!
Grandma recommends "Dirt on My Shirt"!

This is a very cute book, my son really enjoys having the stories read to him. Although, I was under the impression that it was a story about a little boy, but its acutally a collection of stories and poems. I guess i should have done my research! but all in all, its a cute book.
