Jeremy Clarkson gets really riled in Round the Bend. What's it like to drive a car that's actively trying to kill you? This and many other burning questions trouble Jeremy Clarkson as he sets out to explore the world from the safety of four wheels. Avoiding the legions of power-crazed traffic wombles attempting to block highway and byway, he he: Shows how the world of performance cars may be likened to Battersea Dogs Home Reveals why St Moritz may be the most bonkers town in all of the world Reminds us that Switzerland is so afraid of snow that any flakes falling on the road are immediately arrested Argues that washing a car is a waste of time Funny, globe-trotting, irreverent and sometimes downright rude, Round the Bend is packed with curious and fascinating but otherwise hopelessly useless stories and facts about everything under the sun (and just occasionally cars). It's Jeremy Clarkson at his brilliant best. 'Brilliant . . . laugh-out-loud' Daily Telegraph 'Outrageously funny . . . will have you in stitches' Time Out Number-one bestseller and presenter of the hugely popular Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson writes on cars, current affairs and anything else that annoys him in his sharp and funny collections. Born To Be Riled, Clarkson On Cars, Don't Stop Me Now, Driven To Distraction, Round the Bend, Motorworld, and I Know You Got Soul are also available as Penguin paperbacks; the Penguin App iClarkson: The Book of Cars can be downloaded on the App Store.

It's Jeremy Clarkson For Gosh Sakes !
BySam The Shamon February 18, 2014|Verified Purchase
What can be said about the man who punched out Piers Morgan BESIDES A HEART FELT "Well Done Mate!)? The book takes Clarksons' personal observations of daily and the state of the rest of the world, and condense them down to book form. His writing is witty and humorous. Jeremy Clarkson is the weekend writer for the The Sunday Times when he isn't writing for the tabloid paper the Sun. He also is one of the three hosts for BBC's Top Gear (BBC America). Many of his stories are taken from those he wrote for the newspapers or experienced from Top Gear. So unless you read the British Press or watch a whole lot of "Top Gear" the stories will be fresh to you.

Clarkson is a joy to read and after commencing you just don't want to put the current book down so you can get through it to aqait the arrival of your next Clarkson book purchase. He's spot - right - on about the issues he chooses to write about. The book is a good read and Jeremy Clarkson deserves 5 Stars, iof for no other reason that putting up with James May !

    Great writing

Jeremy Clarkson could write about the head of a pin and I'd still read it. No matter what subject he tackles, the writing itself is superb. He's deeply creative, highly intelligent, has a wicked sense of humor, and projects a personality that makes one want to offer condolences to his mother!

    Great Book...In Increments
ByVishal Kotcherlakotaon January 7, 2013|Verified Purchase
I'm a huge fan of Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear series. I do believe that he, unlike many other journalists in his field, actually makes cars exciting and fun to think about. His sense of humor is unique, and his roundabout style of reviewing makes for some unique reading.

That being said, I think he's politically absurd. While that normally doesn't get in the way of me enjoying the work he puts out, this book got tiresome to read after awhile. I really only read a few reviews every time I pick up the book, simply because I'm sick of him talking about polar bears and congestion charges and speed cameras.

It's a fun book, but if you're like me, don't read too much of it at once.

I miss Jeremy and Top Gear, the BBC had their collective heads up their a**es when they fired him . He can certainly be controversial but who do you know that is so full of life and has such wit that is not?

Clarkson and cars, what else do you need?
    ByBazajayteeon April 25, 2012|Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of Jeremy Clarkson both on and off the TV set and his sense of humour and views on the world always ring a sense of truth whilst being funny at the same time. This book is less like his other books as this is more about cars, which I love, and his reviews of them in written form. Mix that with world views on cars and you have this book.

This book is for those who love cars, love Top Gear and love Jeremy Clarkson's humour.

If you want a more world view past and present then you can't go wrong with adding The World According to Clarkson to your basket too.

a few years old, but not out of fashion
ByDornbusch Manuelon January 18, 2012|Verified Purchase
This collection of articles that Mr Clarkson has written in the recent past all touch the central theme of reviewing a car but take the liberty to comment on just about any subject, ranging from traffic, politics and technology...always in the most amusing manner and with a sharp wit that maybe only the british can deliver
If you already have a book of him, you know you want this one
If this will be your first, it will not be your last

    Clarkson being...Clarkson
ByAmazon Customeron September 29, 2012|Verified Purchase
This is really just a collection of his writings, a selection of reviews and editorials. Most of them, people in the States will not have seen
    before,so it's worth it, then....

I guess. It's kind of pricey for what it is.

I haven't finished it yet. I just kind of snip away at it when I need a chuckle. Kind of like that bottle of Rum under the sink.

It's filler. Take a break now and again and read a few. But don't sit up all night with it. Clarkson, like a good Rum, is best taken in small doses.
